Simple Sweet Jaggery Pongal | சக்கரை பொங்கல்


Pongal



Ingredients :

Pongal

Raw Rice / Ponni Rice / Pachai Rice -  3/4 cup
Green Gram / Moong Dal / Paasi Paruppu - 1/4 cup
Jaggery - 1 cup or 150 gm (crushed)
Water - 4 cup
Cardamom - 3 no (crushed)
Ghee - 3tbsp

To Ghee Rhoast :

Cashew nut - 20 no
Raisins - 20 no

Method :
Pongal

  • First boil water in a pongal pot.
  • Add the raw rice and green gram, cook for 15 - 20 min in simmer until the rice and dal cooks well. ( for Pressure Cooker, use 3 cup of water, cook for 1 whistle and 5 min in simmer). 
  • Add Jaggery, mix well and until its melts completely.
    (If the jaggery contains impurities, make syrup with 1/4cup of water, filter and then use.)

Pongal

  • Add cardamom, fried cashew-nuts and raisins, mix well.
  • Finally add ghee, mix well and ready to serve.

Pongal

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Vadai.
