Crispy Rice Flour Thattai


Ingredients :

Crispy Rice Flour Thattai Ingredients

Rice Flour - 2 cup (roasted)
Fried Bengal Gram Powder / Udacha Kadalai Podi - 1/2 cup
Fried Bengal Gram - 3 tbsp (1 hour soaked)
Butter - 1 tbsp (room temperature)
Garlic - 10 cloves (coarsely grind)
Dry Red Chili - 4 nos (coarsely grind)
Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - 1 tbsp (chopped)
Required Water
Oil for deep fry
Salt to taste.

Method :


Steps To Make Rice Flour Thattai :
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the rice flour, fried bengal gram powder, butter, asafoetida and required salt and mix well.
  • Add in red chili, garlic, soaked bengal gram and curry leaves, mix all together and add required water little by little and knead in to soft dough.


  • Make small balls out of the dough.
  • Oil the plastic sheet, place one ball at a time and fold it and pat it by using flat bowl and keep aside. (shown in above image)
  • Do the same for the remaining.


  • Deep fry them (small batches) in hot oil over medium flame until golden brown colour. 
  • For more crispiness, allow to cool and fry them again in hot oil over medium flame and ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Home-made Gulab Jamun and Soft Badusha
