Simple Beetroot Poriyal | செங்கிழங்கு பொரியல்


Ingredients :

Simple Beetroot Poriyal | செங்கிழங்கு பொரியல்

Beetroot - 250 gm (skin peeled off, chopped)
Onion - 1 no (chopped)
Red Chili Powder - 1 tsp
Coriander Seeds Powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Coconut Paste - 2 tbsp 
Sugar - 1 tsp (optional)
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - 1 stk
Water - 1/2 cup
Oil - 1 tbsp 
Salt to Taste.

Method :

Simple Beetroot Poriyal | செங்கிழங்கு பொரியல்

  • Heat Oil in a pressure cooker pan, then temper Mustard Seeds and Urad Dal, after splutter add Curry Leaves and Onion, saute till light golden brown colour.
  • Add Beetroot and stir well for half a minute.
  • Add Red Chili Powder, Coriander Seeds Powder and Turmeric Powder, saute until raw smell leaves.
  • Finally add Water, Sugar and required Salt, mix well.

  • Then pressure cook for 1 whistle and 2mins in simmer. 
  • When all the steam has escaped, open pressure cooker, cook until water reduced and ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve hot with Sambar, Village Sambar or Dal Rice
