Bitter Gourd Poriyal | பாகற்காய் பொரியல் | Pagarkai Poriyal



Ingredients :

Bitter Gourd Poriyal | பாகற்காய் பொரியல் | Pagarkai Poriyal

Pagarkai / Bitter Gourd - 300 gm (large, sliced)
Onion - 1 no (large, chopped)
Tomato - 1 no (large, chopped)
Red Chili Powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - 1 stk
Oil - 2 tbsp
Salt to Taste.

Method :

Steps To Make Bitter Gourd Poriyal :
  • Temper mustard seeds and urad dal in hot oil in a kadai \ frying pan. (Image 1)
  • After splutter add onion and curry leaves, saute for about half a minute. (Image 2)
  • Add tomato and again saute for half a minute. (Image 3)
  • Add bitter gourd / pagarkai and cook for 5min in simmer, stirring frequently. (Image 4)

  • Add required salt, mix well and again cook for another 5min in simmer, stirring frequently. (Image 5)
  • Add red chili powder and turmeric powder, mix well and again cook for another 5min (+ or -) in simmer or until done, stirring frequently. (Image 6 & 7)
  • Remove from the flame and ready to serve.

Serving Suggestion : Serve with Dal Rice or Sambar Rice.
